I read this in the NY Times recently; it’s from “The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich:
“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes too near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could.”
I love it. Enjoy life. Just enjoy it. Let the apples fall where they may. (Isn’t that a great phrase?!)
Life is messy and sometimes it is a slog up a steep and muddy hill. But when I go to my happy place (the beach), I hear a voice on the wind. It says, “I love you.”
One of the best things in the whole world is when the universe says “I love you.”
Listen. This is a belated valentine to you.
Until next space ….
