“Peace of mind is rooted in affection and compassion.” – The 14th Dalai Lama
While talking about politics to a neighbor recently (love thy neighbor!), he said, “peace is unseasonable.” Isn’t that great? As if peace itself needs no salt, needs no other preparation; it stands on its own. I asked him if I could use that thought and then ran home with it, trying combinations of words that might easily flow on a poster: Peace is not a season. Peace is every season. A peace for all seasons. Easy-Pea-ce.
If only we were at peace, calm, and in harmony with ourselves and with the world. No conflicts of might or right. Not only at Christmas time, as in “Peace on Earth,” but every day. While it is nice to have a dedicated season of peace, I want to remember that peace is unseasonable. It is every time. And if it is every time, it can also be every place.
“Be at peace,” and “Peace be with you,” imply there is a place or a space one can reside. Peace lives here.
The poet e.e. cummings wrote, “Love is a place, & through this place of love move (with brightness of peace) all places.”
May peace be with you. Be at peace. Embrace peace daily. Draw pictures of peace.
Until next space… “glide on the peace train…” (Cat Stevens)
